Considering the age of the house, are you positive that the mark isn't FJD ? ... a mark of Frederick J. Dando, a firebrick manufacturer, of Irondale, Ohio.
We just unearthed 3 bricks in our backyard (our house dates to c. 1830 in Connecticut) with the marking FJD on each. I would like to know the approximate date and original use for this type of brick. Thank you.
I just noticed an FJD mark on one of the bricks inside of my fireplace. The house and the fireplace is at least 50 years old, located in Montreal, Quebec.
