A. P. GREEN

My husband found a white brick in our backyard in St Louis, MO. The brick is stamped with AP Green on the first line and SPLITS.M on the second line. Our home was built in 1937 but was not built with any bricks on this sort. Any information you have on this particular one would be interesting to hear.

  1. AP Green was a well-known brickmaking company in Missouri. A "Split" usually refers to a brick that is half as thick as a normal one, that is, about 2 inches thick. Is the one you mention of that type? Splits might be used for topping a brick wall or some other application where just a few more inches of brick were needed to bring a structure to proper level. They are somewhat fragile and therefore, if yours is in good condition, an interesting collector's item.

Found A P Green brick covered in glass in Three Rivers Texas. Was wondering where it could have come from and what it could have been used for?

  3. Thanks for the info on the AP Green Splits. Since my post we have found more of them. I believe we have 7-8 that are in like new condition. They appear to have never been used.

  4. We found some of these same bricks, but ours has A.P. Green LSPLIT on it. We live in Harrah, Ok. and found these in a pile with a lot of other bricks on the back side of our acreage a couple of weeks ago.
