SAGE, WB BLASS, FALLSTON, HANLEY

Anonymous said...
I found 4 different bricks in the bay by East Rockaway, NY.
SAGE
WB BLASS
The other 2 had writing on the sides:
MADE FALLSTON USA (The FALLSTON was in larger print}
HANLEY CO (on the top were 2 rows of 5 holes)

Thanks for assistance with identifying any of these bricks.

  1. The SAGE was made in, or near Greenport L.I. The Hanley in Bradford and Summerville, PA. The Fallston by the Fallston Fire Clay Co of Pittsburgh, PA. The Hanley and Fallston are both face brick. The WB BLASS We're not familiar with as such, but would speculate its a WB GLASS fire brick made by the North American Refractories Co. of Renovo, PA. (on the possibility that some letters (the "B" in this case are often obliterated or deformed) .

    The Sage is a building brick made out in eastern Long Island near Southold (Sage Road). The WB BLASS is probably a fire brick (trade mark WB GLASS) made by the Queens Run Refractories in Renovo, PA (ref. J. Graves -" Brick Brands of the United States") The Falston and Hanley bricks are face brick respectively made by the Fallston Fire Clay Co in Pittsburg, PA. and the Hanley in Bradford. PA .
